[7RQ] Tempus Cover / Thought Bubble / White Zombie
TEMPUS COVER REVEAL
At last, Lightning Books has declassified (har har) the awesome cover of THE TEMPUS PROJECT, the second Brigitte Sharp novel.
Pre-orders direct from Eye & Lightning are now open, and I expect it’ll be available to pre-order from other outlets — including your local bookshop, natch — in due course. THE TEMPUS PROJECT is currently scheduled for a spring release (though, as always with book release dates, that might change at any moment…!)
THOUGHT BUBBLE 2019
Yes, I’ll have a table at this year’s Thought Bubble, in the new venue of the Harrogate Convention Centre.
THIS WILL PROBABLY BE THE LAST TIME I SET UP A CONVENTION TABLE, EVER.
Thought Bubble was the first convention I ever tabled, so it’s fitting that it will almost certainly be the last. That’s not to say I won’t continue attending cons! But lugging boxes of books around and standing behind a table all weekend is exhausting work. Better for knackered old gits like me to have a gentle sit down, massage our sore backs, and let a younger and healthier generation put that space to good use.
So I’ll have a big complement of books with me at TB and once they’re gone, they’re gone. If you’ve ever wanted to buy something from me directly, this is your last chance.
PULLMAN NO PUNCHES
Segregation always shuts out more than it lets in. When we say, “This book is for such-and-such a group,” what we seem to be saying, what we’re heard as saying, is: “This book is not for anyone else.” — Philip Pullman
This is an old talk, delivered back in 2001, but I only just read it this week, and it’s kind of sad and amazing how relevant it still is.
NOT SO GREAT
The ‘great red spot’ has been a primary feature of Jupiter for what may be centuries, certainly as long as humanity has been able to see the planet in detail. But within a few generations, what seemed a permanent landmark (gasmark?) could be gone altogether.

Great NPR piece on a book by ex-CIA officer Amaryllis Fox, wherein she explains why restaurants and cafés (including Starbucks payment cards!) are so vital to the infrastructure of espionage.
TL;DR #2: “RESOURCES AND WOOD AND STUFF”
Tune in for a second go-round of TL;DR, the game show of hasty summaries and reckless connections! A new batch of players from the Incomparable stable guarantees an evening of fun, misunderstanding, and Scottish frustration…
THRASH IT OUT: “ASTRO-CREEP: 2000” BY WHITE ZOMBIE
Finally, Brian LeTendre and I wrap up Volume 4 of Thrash it Out with one of my all-time favourite records, and the only truly great album of White Zombie’s career — hmmm, that sounds like it might be a theme of some kind…
AND HE CAME RIGHT BACK JUST TO DO IT AGAIN:
